Yin deficiency and fire exuberance (deficiency of yin essence in the body, resulting in hyperactive fire) and spleen and stomach deficiency and cold (spleen and stomach are weak and cold) are treated by strengthening the spleen, warming the yang and benefiting the qi, and nourishing the yin and lowering the fire (nourishing the yin essence and lowering the fire), and can be treated with Xiao Jianzhong Tang, and Zhi Bai Di Huang Pills, among other treatments. Xiao Jianzhong Tang has the effect of warming the middle Jiao, tonifying the deficiency, harmonizing the li and easing the urgency. It is used to treat deficiency and coldness in the middle jiao, and disharmony between the liver and spleen (the liver and spleen cannot work in harmony). Symptoms include pain in the abdomen (spasm and convulsion of the body due to wind-cold sensation), a preference for warmth and pressure, fatigue (mental exhaustion and physical weakness), and deficiency and timidity with little qi. It is not suitable for those who have vomited or have fullness in the middle; and is contraindicated in stomach and epigastric pain due to deficiency of yin and exuberance of fire. Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan has the effect of nourishing yin and reducing fire. It is used in treating hot flashes (a burst of fever), night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep and stopping after waking up), dry mouth and sore throat, tinnitus, spermatorrhea, and short and reddish urine (small amount of urine, dark yellow in color) caused by yin deficiency and fire exuberance. If medication is needed, it should be diagnosed by a doctor and the treatment should be standardized according to the doctor’s prescription.
