What are the advantages of laparoscopic surgery for varicocele?

Varicocele is a dilated, curved, and lengthened trapezius plexus of the spermatic cord, mostly on the left side, which can cause degeneration of spermatogonia, atrophy, and a decrease in sperm count due to increased temperature in the affected scrotum and reflection to the opposite side. The severity of varicose veins is often inconsistent with the severity of symptoms, and mild varicose veins can cause more pronounced symptoms. A small number of patients may have symptoms of neurological deficit. On examination, one side of the scrotum is distended and the testicle is drooping, mostly on the left side. The dilated vein mass can disappear completely or shrink significantly when the scrotum is lifted in the horizontal position, and it fills up again when standing up. Our department uses laparoscopic ligation of high varicose veins, which has several advantages over the previous classical surgical approach: 1. The application of a magnifying lens allows for a clearer visualization of the vascular structures, thus enabling simpler identification of the spermatic veins and spermatic arteries and preventing damage to these structures. 2. A more thorough surgical separation and ligation of the paracervical branches of the spermatic veins is performed, reducing the recurrence rate. 3.For bilateral varicocele, laparoscopic surgery avoids a second surgical incision and shortens the operative time. 4.During laparoscopic surgery, hand pulling the testicle can help to clarify the spermatic vessels crossing the internal ring and the parallel veins. 5. Postoperative semen quality improvement is better than that of conventional surgery.
