Last week, a 76-year-old retired cadre came in claiming to have symptoms of left-sided orofacial distortion and inability to close the left eye the day after a tooth extraction (the last tooth). The patient knew something about acupuncture and knew that it was uniquely effective for facial palsy and came to the clinic on the third day after onset. Clinically, facial palsy is often referred to as the edema phase within a week of onset, and especially Western doctors do not recommend acupuncture treatment during this phase. At that time, I recalled Professor Gao Shuzhong’s insight that the earlier facial palsy is treated, the better, only that light and shallow stabs are advisable within one week of onset. So Bai penetrated Fish Waist, Sun penetrated Shimonoseki, Si Bai penetrated Zygomatic s, Di Cang penetrated Cheek Che, Cheek Che penetrated Di Cang, Cataract, and Hegu (taken bilaterally), and the rest of the points were taken from the affected side, and the needles were kept for 30 min, plus TDP irradiation, once a day. After one treatment, the eyes closed situation improved greatly, 3 times the eyes closed basic recovery, mouth distortion after 5 times the basic recovery, 10 times the treatment has been completely recovered, satisfied thanks and left. In the past, I have seen people who came to acupuncture only after one month, but despite the obvious recovery, the symptoms of mouth distortion still remained when they spoke.
