Positive optimism boosts the immune system

Optimism can improve the human immune system A new study in the United States, optimism in life can not only improve the mood of people, but also to improve the human immune system. Researchers followed a group of college freshmen and recorded and analyzed their optimism index and the corresponding response of the immune system. The study found that the more optimistic people were, the stronger the cellular immune function (i.e., the body’s function against foreign viruses and bacteria). Once the optimism index decreased, the cellular immune function also decreased. Previous studies have pointed out the correlation between physical and psychological. Both marital problems and work stress can slow down the body’s self-repair and lead to disease in the long run. However, most of the previous studies only compared the effect of optimism and pessimism on the immune system, but did not involve other factors such as genes, personality, the impact on the immune system. The latest findings also show that an optimistic outlook on life affects the body’s immune system by increasing positive emotions. The researchers said the next step is to see if optimism can bring the same effect to older people with relatively weak immune systems. Margaret, a health psychologist at the University of California, San Francisco, who participated in the study. Kemeny said: “The results of the study have some guidance for psychiatrists on how to do psychological counseling treatment for patients.” Kemeny said, in general, psychologists to patients for psychological counseling is mainly to eliminate the patient’s negative emotions and stress, while the latest research shows that the cultivation and encouragement of positive emotions on treatment has a great help.
