Patients with chronic glomerulonephritis are on a diet: 1. First of all, a low-salt diet is emphasized, requiring patients to control their daily salt intake at 3-5g, which is basically equivalent to half of the salt intake of ordinary Chinese people. This is because if the salt intake is too much, it may cause water and sodium retention, raise blood pressure and aggravate kidney damage. 2. Patients require a high quality low protein diet, with daily protein intake controlled at 0.6-0.8g per kilogram of body weight, of which animal protein or soybean products account for more than 50%. 3. Patients should limit foods high in fats and oils, whether they are animal fats or vegetable fats. 4. If the patient is swollen, water intake should be limited, requiring the patient’s daily water intake to be 500ml on top of the previous day’s urine volume, as excessive water intake can also raise blood pressure and aggravate swelling.
