Kidney Disease FAQ

How to limit potassium ions? Potassium is widely found in meat, dark green vegetables and fruits, and dried beans. When kidney function is poor, excess potassium may not be removed effectively, and too much potassium in the blood can cause serious heart conduction and contraction abnormalities, and even death. When the diet needs to restrict potassium ions, sparingly use sparse vegetables and fruits with high potassium ion content. Such as mushrooms, amaranth, cauliflower, spinach, cabbage, bamboo shoots, tomatoes, carrots, melon, mustard, pomegranate, loquat, peach, willow, hard persimmon, orange, sesame, etc., and avoid raw vegetables; others such as coffee, strong tea, chicken essence, beef essence, ginseng essence, thick broth, thin salt soy sauce, unsalted soy sauce, half salt, salt substitute, etc., also have high potassium content. When cooking, food should be scalded with boiling water, remove the soup and then stir-fry with oil to reduce the intake of potassium. How to limit water? If the amount of urine excreted decreases, the fluid entering through the mouth will be retained in the body, resulting in swelling, increased blood pressure, and even pulmonary edema.
