How to view ovulation promotion

If two follicles grow and mature at the same time during ovulation promotion and if the male partner’s semen routine is normal, there is a chance of having intercourse at the right time to conceive a double pregnancy. However, sometimes things don’t go as expected and if more than 2 follicles are produced, intercourse is not recommended because of the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and multiple pregnancies. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a complication in which the body overreacts to ovulation-promoting drugs, causing a series of clinical symptoms characterized by the development of multiple follicles in one bilateral ovary, ovarian enlargement, abnormal capillary permeability, and acute extravasation of body fluids and proteins into the third interstitial space of the body. Common symptoms include abdominal distention, oliguria, and dyspnea. Although the incidence is low, when it occurs it is more dangerous and can even be life-threatening if not detected and treated in time. In the case of multiple pregnancies, the incidence of maternal and infant complications is significantly higher, such as gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, weak contractions, postpartum hemorrhage, miscarriage, preterm delivery, intrauterine growth restriction, intrauterine fetal death, and neonatal asphyxia. The perinatal mortality rate of newborns is three times higher in twin pregnancies and five times higher in triplet pregnancies than in singleton pregnancies. Therefore, ovulation promotion is not suitable for everyone; the use of ovulation drugs in women with normal ovulation can lead to hormonal abnormalities in the body and overgrowth and development of follicles. Only patients with ovulation problems will be treated with pro-ovulatory drugs at our discretion, depending on their specific situation. Furthermore, the use of ovulatory drugs must be followed by regular ultrasound monitoring in the clinic. Sometimes patients may not understand, so we will patiently explain to them. As doctors, we not only want our patients to have a pregnancy, but also a healthy pregnancy and a healthy newborn.
