Differentiation of benign and malignant thyroid nodules

Thyroid nodules are very common, with 4-7% of nodules palpable in adults, and about 10% of nodules found clinically by imaging, especially in recent years with the concern for thyroid health, the popularity of cervical vascular and thyroid ultrasonography, so that the number of thyroid nodules found clinically is increasing. The majority of thyroid nodules are benign and 5%-15% are malignant. Malignant nodules require prompt surgical treatment, while benign nodules require only follow-up. Currently, ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland has become the first choice for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of thyroid nodules because it is easy to perform, inexpensive, safe and radiation-free.
