A college teacher has always been an elder whom I have great respect for. Every year to the Spring Festival I have to visit the elderly. This year, when I visited his home, I was astonished. Because the teacher, who had always been healthy, became extremely thin, limbs weak, face with vegetables. Completely changed like a new person. I found out that the old man was suddenly interested in health, and he listened to the newspapers, TV and various health lectures very carefully, with strict reference to the implementation. His partner even strictly control the teacher’s diet. The teacher, who was originally robust and glowing, suddenly became as thin as a bone under the guidance of this “healthy lifestyle”, and my diagnosis: malnutrition! The increasingly developed information in modern society, various health lectures, advocating various healthy habits, has indeed changed people’s lives. Undoubtedly, a healthy lifestyle, including low fat, low sugar, reducing obesity, and eating more fresh vegetables and fruits should be actively advocated. However, we should see that health maintenance should also be different from one person to another. There are so many health activities nowadays. There are those who sell health products and those who sell medicines. Some unscrupulous businessmen, under the banner of health care, are actually deceiving the elderly and buying their so-called health care products. We should look at the big picture, some elderly people, who have a small diet themselves, coupled with limited activity and low metabolic rate. Excessive emphasis on low fat and restricted intake of animal protein will not only cause unnecessary corrections to the diet of the elderly, but more importantly, cause unnecessary psychological damage to the elderly. As a result of seeing a lot of promotional materials, some elderly people are afraid to eat the food they like and do not like the food recommended by the “experts”. Let’s think about it, the elderly have lived for decades, and suddenly what they like to eat all their lives is considered unhealthy, family members are blocking, the media propaganda offensive, the elderly feel that I have no choice in terms of food, and even some propaganda says that our diet is “eat healthy”, “whether you love to eat or not. In the face of these propaganda, the elderly suddenly feel confused and disoriented, which eventually leads to mental anorexia. The result is severe malnutrition, further damage to the immune system and various diseases. Such problems can seriously affect the psychological and physical health of the elderly. It should attract the attention of the whole society. I suggest that the elderly should first determine whether they are overweight, whether they have high blood lipids, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, “three high” performance, if this phenomenon, you can go to the hospital, through drugs, and under the guidance of doctors to control the diet. For elderly people who are slightly overweight, there is no need to overemphasize the control of diet, and there is no need to deliberately require the weight to be within the normal range. Do not eat salty diet, and eat animal protein appropriately is also needed by the body. It is beneficial to eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Personally, I do not advocate excessive control of diet for senior citizens, mainly those over 80 years old. Do not deliberately change the eating habits of the elderly after reading an article by some expert or some magazine, our diet is an important part of our life in addition to providing nutrition for the human body, as we often say: “Enjoy your lunch” How big is the sky when “the people’s food is the sky”? Eating is a kind of enjoyment, is everyone’s daily pleasure, if deliberately according to the so-called “health tips” to change the diet of the elderly, will lead to a series of problems. We should realize that diet is a “big problem”, but it is more important for us to care about the inner world of the elderly, their joy and sorrow, their spiritual feelings, their happy life. Our children, our friends and relatives, you are well-intentioned, you are well-meaning, but your perspective of consideration is different. Consider more from the personal feelings of the elderly, more from the psychological health of the elderly, meticulous arrangements, scientific changes, humane thinking, rational action, I believe that “love” will make the elderly more healthy!
