Can HPV screening detect cervical cancer

HPV test cannot directly detect cervical cancer because it is a cytological test and can only determine whether there is any viral infection and whether there is any chance of precancerous lesions, because most cervical cancers can be accompanied by HPV infection in 95% of women, so HPV is only a preliminary screening test. When HPV is negative, it means that there is no HPV infection and the chance of cervical cancer is very low, so there is no need to worry too much and annual health screening is sufficient. When HPV is positive, especially HPV 16, 18 and 52, colposcopic biopsy is needed for tissue analysis, and this is the time to determine if cervical cancer is present. If cervical cancer is present, a colposcopic biopsy will indicate the presence of cervical cancer.
