Gout is a group of diseases caused by disorders of purine metabolism. In recent years, with the improvement of people’s living standard and the change of diet structure in China, the incidence of gout is increasing year by year. Gout is more common in middle-aged and elderly people over 40 years old, and more men than women (probably related to diet). The latest research results show that the development of this disease is related to factors such as congenital enzyme defects and improper diet. Gout, as its name suggests, is as painful as the wind blows; but from another point of view, it is also like the wind blowing, which comes and goes quickly, hence the name gout. The gout attack is named “white tiger gout” because it occurs in the bones of the limbs like the bite of a tiger. As a result of the emphasis on food and the pursuit of food and food life, gout is no longer the monopoly of the emperors, but even the common people can suffer from gout. About 70% of the initial attacks of gout occur at the base of the bunions. It also occurs in the feet, knees, fingers, elbows, and so on. If left untreated for a long time, the swelling and the number of joints will gradually expand. Once the swelling starts, it becomes red, swollen, and painful within a few hours, and the next morning it may be too painful to walk. Inflammation of the joint results in fluid accumulation in the joint and inflammation of the periphery, similar to the inflammation of septicemia caused by bacteria. The inflamed part of the skin may become red, tight, swollen, and congested. When kidney damage occurs in gout, it is called gouty nephropathy. Gout often has obvious clinical symptoms of arthritis, while kidney changes are often insidious. Usually gouty arthritis recurs for many years before kidney damage occurs. However, there are exceptions, and even kidney damage occurs before arthritis. Gout kidney damage includes chronic gouty nephropathy, urinary tract uric acid stones and acute obstructive nephropathy. The state in which uric acid is deposited in the kidneys, causing the kidneys to function less well, is called “gouty kidney”. In this state, the body is unable to excrete old waste, and toxins spread throughout the body, which can easily lead to “uremia”. Once a person is diagnosed with gout, he or she should first undergo appropriate tests to find out the cause of gout and whether it is combined with related diseases. The causes of secondary gout can be removed and the uric acid can return to normal, while primary gout is not found and accounts for the majority of cases. The second is to receive long-term patient treatment from a specialist, and after systematic standardized treatment, the prognosis is generally good. Even if the gout attack is not to worry, there are already very effective drugs to treat gout. You should adhere to the regular treatment and regular review, do not believe in the one-sided propaganda of the so-called special drugs. Gout may develop into chronic gouty arthritis, extensive gouty stone formation, joint deformity and dysfunction, gouty nephropathy, renal insufficiency and urinary tract stones and other complications if misdiagnosed or not treated properly for a long time. Gout is easily combined with hypertension, hyperemia, obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease (angina pectoris, myocardial infarction) and stroke (cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage), thus the treatment of related diseases is extremely important for the prognosis of gout. Early intervention can stop the disease from progressing to the end stage, prevent complications and reduce the pain and economic burden of patients. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Tianjin Public Security Hospital has accumulated rich experience in the treatment of gout since it was established in 2004, and its treatment characteristics are reflected in the combination of internal regulation of Chinese medicine and acupressure, which can clear heat and cool blood, dispel wind and relieve pain during the acute stage of gout, and clear heat, strengthen spleen and relieve dampness during the remission stage of gout. It is one of the traditional treatment methods of Chinese medicine, which can avoid the adverse reactions caused by certain drugs taken internally and improve the pain of swollen joints and other symptoms.
