The incidence of spontaneous pneumothorax is high, and some cases can recur within the first month after the first episode. Without effective preventive measures, the recurrence rate within 5 years is 28% for primary spontaneous pneumothorax and 43% for secondary pneumothorax. For patients who have had an episode of pneumothorax, the following measures are beneficial to prevent recurrence: 1. bed rest should be taken in a comfortable and quiet environment; 2. avoid forceful and breath-holding movements; 3. quit smoking; 4. do not do pulling movements and contouring chest exercises for 3 to 6 months after pneumothorax discharge to prevent inducing pneumothorax; 5. prevent upper respiratory tract infection and avoid violent coughing; 6. increase nutrition and strengthen physical fitness.
