For gout, colchicine is the most commonly used medication in the acute phase. For the course of colchicine, it is formally recommended that gout patients continue taking it for a period of three months. It is also necessary to insist on taking colchicine after the acute phase, mainly because in the early stage of applying uric acid-lowering drugs, especially three months after applying uric acid-lowering drugs, the blood and uric acid suddenly drop, which can easily induce an acute attack of gout. Therefore, it is recommended to apply colchicine and uric acid-lowering drugs at the same time, with an application course of about three months. Colchicine combined with febuxostat is currently an effective treatment plan for gout. Gout patients must be treated with regular medication, not just pain relief treatment in the acute phase, which is a cure for the symptoms but not the root cause.
