What is Shao Yin disease

The main evidence of Shao-Yin disease is a weak pulse but desire to sleep, which is the pulse evidence of Shao-Yin disease of Yin evil, as stated in the Golden Guide to Medicine, “Shao-Yin evil pulse is sunken and thin, back cold and desire to sleep in the mouth and, sore throat, abdominal pain and bone pain, syncope, clearing the valley and four reversals of disease”. Shaoyin includes the heart and kidney organs and their respective Shaoyin meridians. The Heart fire is suppressed by Kidney water, and there are manifestations of Kidney Yang deficiency, such as back chill, sore throat, pain in the bones and joints of the limbs, abdominal pain, inability to transform the complete grain, and cold extremities; while the Shao Yin Yang evil pulse is manifested by the hyperactivity of the Heart, and water cannot control the fire. The fire is too strong and burns the fluids, manifesting as the Great Cheng Qi Tang evidence of a dry mouth and dry throat with a sunken, thin pulse; there is also the Huang Lian Agaricus Tang evidence of excessive heart fire: yang evil multiplies the yin evil, “yin is quiet and yang is agitated”, so that yin is not quiet, making the person restless and restless. As stated in the Golden Guide to Medicine, “Shao-Yin Yang evil is sunken and thin, the mouth is dry and the throat is dry, Da Cheng Tang, Shao-Yin heart is troubled and cannot lie down, Huang Lian Agaricus Tang is the main formula”. Shao Yin disease is not only caused by Yang and Yin evils, but also Shao Yin and Sun disease. Shao-Yin disease is not feverish, but if it is feverish, it is a combination of Sun epiphenomenon, i.e. Tai Shao two sensations. In the early stage of fever, Ephedra with seeds and fine spices soup is used to warm and disperse the cold evil urgently; after two or three days, there should be Ephedra with seeds and licorice soup to warm the cold evil slowly. Note: Ephedra is the main medicine of the Sun; Radix et Rhizoma is the main medicine of the Shao Yin; Rhizoma is the main medicine of the Yang Ming. For both Tai and Shao sensations, use Ephedra with Radix et Rhizoma finely spiced/glycyrrhizae Tang. For combined Sun-Yang-Ming disease, use Da Huang and Radix Eucommiae Tang. The pain under the flank is partial and feverish, and the pulse is tight and stringy, this is also cold, so warming medicine is used to subdue it. Where there is partial pain and the pulse is tight and stringy, it belongs to cold and can be subdued with warming herbs. For pain on one side of the leg, Paeonia lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza glabra soup with Rhubarb and Radix et Rhizoma. If the lumbar intervertebral disc herniation compresses the nerve causing pain on one side of the leg or pear-shaped muscle syndrome can be tried on the second side.
