Do rhinoplasty implants need to be replaced periodically?

Prosthesis refers to the artificial prosthesis used in implantable rhinoplasty, and is generally divided into two categories: silicone rubber and expanded body from the material of the prosthesis. Silicone rubber is a linear organosiloxane polymer, which is easy to be processed and shaped, and has a strong texture; PTFE dispersed resin, which is softer and has micropores. Both types of materials are harmless to the human body, the ideal medical polymer material, can be used permanently. If there is no infection, perforation of the prosthesis skewed and other adverse reactions, the prosthesis can generally be used in the body for a long time, and there are many cases of permanent use of prostheses in the body at home and abroad. However, as a foreign body, the silicone prosthesis will form a thicker envelope around the prosthesis after a long period of time, which is the body’s natural protective reaction. This is the body’s natural protective response. The envelope has a tendency to shrink inward, and this force slowly and continuously affects the shape of the nose, reducing visual aesthetics over time. Comparatively speaking, expanders have a longer lifespan, this is because their own tissues can grow into the micropores of the expanders, there is no phenomenon produced by the envelope, so that the expanders can be firmly fixed, it is not easy to move and shift, even if long time placement, there will not be a sense of contour. However, the expandable body still has a disadvantage, that is, after a long time, because of their own tissue to the microporous growth, may cause the contraction of the expandable body, resulting in the volume of the smaller, so in individual cases there will be a little bit of distortion. Therefore, if the candidate is more concerned about this problem, it is recommended that after 5 years of implantation can be checked once a year to eliminate hidden problems.
