What causes amniotic fluid embolism

The exact cause of amniotic fluid embolism is unknown. It may be caused by excessive pressure in the amniotic cavity, opening of blood sinuses, rupture of fetal membranes, etc., and needs to be analyzed specifically.
1. Excessive pressure in the amniotic cavity: the fetus is wrapped by the amniotic membrane in the mother’s body. After labor, the pressure in the amniotic cavity rises, and when the pressure in the amniotic cavity exceeds the venous blood pressure, the amniotic fluid may be squeezed into the mother’s blood circulation, thus causing amniotic fluid embolism.
2. Opening of blood sinus: When the cervix or uterus is damaged or the blood sinus is ruptured due to various reasons during labor, the amniotic fluid may enter the blood circulation of the mother through the broken blood vessel or the blood sinus after the placenta, thus causing amniotic fluid embolism.
3. Rupture of fetal membranes: Most amniotic fluid embolisms occur after rupture of the fetal membranes, and amniotic fluid can enter the blood circulation through broken small blood vessels, thus causing amniotic fluid embolism.
Amniotic fluid embolism is also related to other causes. It is recommended to actively cooperate with the doctor when this symptom occurs to avoid life-threatening situations.
