The first 3 months after birth, infants can recognize the rhythm of articulation. 6 months old infants have a preference for their mother’s voice. 7 months old infants can produce regular syllables; 9 months old infants can start to call their parents. The best time to acquire speech is before age 7. Therefore, early intervention is necessary for deaf children. If hearing screening is not performed, once the optimal period of language development is missed, the child becomes deaf and mute. This is why hearing screening is important and urgent! Newborn hearing screening consists of aberration product otoacoustic emission (OAE), which has the advantages of being rapid, non-invasive, sensitive and objective, so it is now widely used for hearing screening of newborns and infants.
