Is gout painful?

It hurts to have gout. For gout, which has been described as pain like a snake bite, the pain is often intense in nature and intolerable to the patient. In order to relieve the patient’s pain symptoms as soon as possible, colchicine can be taken orally for a quick anti-inflammatory pain relief. Colchicine can quickly inhibit the chemotaxis of leukocytes in the joints, from playing a role in reducing joint inflammation and providing rapid pain relief. If some patients cannot tolerate colchicine, they can be replaced by non-steroidal pain medications, such as diclofenac sodium extended-release tablets, for symptomatic pain relief. At the same time, in order to avoid recurrent gout attacks, continuous uric acid-lowering medication, such as oral febuxostat, is needed during the interval when the joints are not painful.
