Do fetal ectopic kidneys require amniocentesis?

Fetal ectopic kidneys alone are not associated with chromosomal abnormalities and amniocentesis is usually not needed.
Fetal ectopic kidney alone does not need amniocentesis, and general chromosome screening can be done for fetal ectopic kidney. Amniocentesis is only considered for further examination when fetal ectopic kidney is combined with other chromosomal indicators of abnormality, such as shortened femur length, cardiac malformations, missing nasal bone, widened ventricles, and so on.
Symptoms of other chromosomal abnormalities should generally be examined by amniocentesis, cord blood puncture, or noninvasive DNA testing.
It is recommended that general chromosome screening is sufficient for simple fetal ectopic kidney and amniocentesis is not necessary. If there are special cases, they should be analyzed according to the specific situation, and it is recommended that the need for amniocentesis should be considered after medical consultation and in accordance with the doctor’s instructions.
