What happens when a child’s nails are split and broken?

The most common cause of delamination and breakage in children’s nails is a dry nail plate with low water content. In addition, babies are mobile and wear and tear on the nail plate during play can easily lead to delamination and fracture. However, if a child is not eating normally, is a picky eater, has diarrhoea, or even shows abnormal signs such as growth retardation, malnutrition or systemic disease should be considered and a hospital visit is needed.
