What is diabetic foot disease?

The number of diabetics in China is increasing, and so is its complication, diabetic foot disease. Foot ulcer infections, Charcot’s neuro-osteoarthropathy, and peripheral arteriopathy often lead to gangrene of the lower limbs and forced amputations. For such conditions, it often requires the efforts of a team of physicians to treat them at great expense. The focus is still on prevention, if neurological and peripheral vascular lesions in diabetic patients are screened for in the community and added to the treatment. The outcome would be much improved. The burn department of ZMC II was the first to establish a doctor-led wound treatment center in China, which has improved the wound treatment process by aligning with the latest international treatment model and technology, and has a whole set of treatment plans especially for diabetic foot disease.
