How long can you live with hepatocellular carcinoma?

The survival period of liver cancer patients is also determined by the severity of the cancer. If liver cancer is in the early stage, the disease can be controlled and life prolonged through surgery and other adjuvant treatments. If the disease is under control, the survival period can reach five to ten years or even longer. However, the survival period of patients with advanced liver cancer is about half a year. For patients with hepatitis and cirrhosis, they can take oral antiviral drugs to treat the virus, and post-operative chemotherapy to treat the tumor and increase the immune drug therapy for adjuvant treatment. During chemotherapy, patients may experience some complications, such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Patients should be psychologically prepared in advance. After surgery, patients with liver cancer should pay more attention to diet and rest, mainly light diet, strictly prohibit drinking alcohol, keep sufficient sleep, and actively engage in appropriate physical exercise, which can improve body resistance and prevent disease recurrence. If the patient belongs to advanced stage of liver cancer, he/she should also be encouraged to take treatment actively if his/her physical condition allows. Because with the advancement of medical technology and drugs, patients with advanced liver cancer who used to survive for about 4 months on average can possibly control the development of the disease and their lives can even be extended to more than 2 years. The survival period of liver cancer patients depends on the severity of the disease, physical quality, and treatment plan. In any case, it is recommended that patients should be encouraged to undergo treatment.
