Pleural effusion is treated with fluid aspiration and the specific treatment period depends on the cause of the patient’s condition, and there is no strict time limit.
Pleural effusion is caused by various reasons, the balance of production and absorption of small amount of fluid in the pleural cavity is broken, resulting in the accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity. There are more causes and diseases that cause pleural effusion and the treatment cycle varies.
For example, congestive heart failure can trigger an increase in hydrostatic pressure in the pleural capillaries, triggering pleural effusion. When the heart failure resolves, so does the pleural effusion. The pumping treatment perimeter depends on the recovery time of heart failure and pleural effusion, usually around several days or weeks.
If tuberculous pleurisy is present, it can trigger increased permeability of the pleura, leading to pleural effusion and requiring a longer period of anti-tuberculous treatment. Generally when tuberculous pleurisy is under some control, pleural effusion will be reduced, but the symptoms tend to recur, and aspiration treatment usually ranges from a few weeks or months.
If pleural effusion is caused by a tumor, active treatment of the primary tumor is needed along with aspiration. Only when the tumor is controlled can pleural effusion be reduced.
With pleural effusion and the need for aspiration treatment, it is recommended to seek medical treatment in time and standardize the treatment under the guidance of professional doctors.
