Can pleural effusion come back if it is cured

Whether pleural effusion will recur or not mainly refers to its underlying disease, pleural effusion is only a symptomatic manifestation. Pleural effusion caused by infectious diseases and leaky pleural effusion will usually not recur after cure, and malignant pleural effusion tends to recur.
If the pleural effusion is caused by an infectious disease, such as the common pneumonia and tuberculosis, it is less likely to recur after the infection has been controlled. Leaky pleural effusions, such as those caused by heart failure, cirrhosis, and nephrotic syndrome, also usually do not recur after the original disease is cured.
However, if the pleural effusion is caused by malignant pleural effusion, such as lung cancer, due to the cancer is more difficult to be cured, even after the extraction of pleural effusion, the pleural effusion is easy to recur due to the influence of the original disease.
It is recommended that patients with pleural effusion should consult a doctor in time to find out the cause of the disease and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
