Lumbar stones and kidney stones are the same, they are just referred to differently. A lumbar stone may be the common term, while a kidney stone is the professional term. Lumbar stones are usually kidney stones or ureteral stones, and the vast majority of ureteral stones are also caused by stones formed in the kidneys that drain into the ureter. For lumbar stones or kidney stones, it is recommended that ultrasound must be done after discovery to determine the size and location of the stones as well as the hydronephrosis before deciding how to proceed. If the stone is small, less than 0.5cm, it can be excreted by drinking more water, urinating more and taking lithotripsy drugs. If the stones are large, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, holmium laser lithotripsy with percutaneous nephrolithoscopy and soft ureteroscopy can be considered.
