What is rheumatic heart valve disease?

Valve damage caused by rheumatic inflammation is known as rheumatic heart disease, or rheumatic heart disease for short.
In recent years, with improvements in living and medical conditions, the prevalence of rheumatic heart disease in the population is decreasing, while degenerative heart valve disease in the elderly is increasing, but rheumatic heart disease is still the most common form of valvular heart disease in China.
Mitral valve involvement accounts for about 70% of patients with rheumatic heart disease, mitral valve combined with aortic valve lesions for 20%-30%, aortic valve lesions alone for 2%-5%, and tricuspid and pulmonary valve involvement is rare.
