When is the best time to get screened for cervical cancer?

Normally, the best time period for cervical cancer screening should be after ovulation. Cervical cancer screening can be done as long as there is no bleeding. However, because cervical cancer screening mainly involves taking the exfoliated cells from the junction of the patient’s cervical squamous column epithelium, and this exfoliated cell may be partially washed away by menstrual blood if it is examined just after menstruation, which may result in insufficient specimen volume. The reason why the test cannot be performed during menstruation is that the blood may affect the test results of cervical cancer screening. In contrast, after ovulation, there are more cells shed at the intersection of the squamous epithelium of the cervix, and the amount of cells taken at this time is sufficient and the results are more accurate. It should be noted that two types of cervical cancer screening tests are recommended: tct test and hpv test, one is to check the pathology of cervical exfoliated cells and the other is to check hpv virus.
