In layman’s terms, “dry eye” refers to a type of disease that causes eye discomfort because the eyes do not get enough tears to moisten them. In the past, dry eye was mainly an eye disease of the elderly, but now there are more and more young people and white-collar workers who are often in contact with computers. According to a survey conducted by the relevant departments, 90% of people who work more than 8 hours a day in front of a computer have symptoms of eye discomfort, and this so-called “computer vision syndrome” is a manifestation of dry eye disease. In recent years, dry eye disease has become younger mainly because in modern life, young people work and play more and more in contact with computers, facing fluorescent screens for a long time, lack of timely blinking or let the eyes rest, affecting the formation of tear film and tear secretion in both eyes, thus causing eye dryness, burning sensation, eye acidity, eye itching, photophobia and blurred vision. In addition, it can be accompanied by emotional irritation, fatigue and difficulty concentrating. So, how to prevent and reduce dry eye syndrome for people who are often exposed to computers? (1) First of all, it is important to develop the habit of blinking more often. Professionals believe that dry eye is a stress-related disease, and the problem lies in the eyes staring in one direction for a long time. Therefore the best way to avoid eye fatigue is to take proper breaks and avoid continuous operation. Typically, the average person blinks less than five times per minute to dry out their eyes. A person working in front of the computer blinks only one-third of the usual number of times, so you should consciously blink more, and let your eyes rest at least once every hour. In addition, the posture and distance of work is also important. Lower the monitor, seat up, adjust a most appropriate posture, so that the line of sight can be maintained down about 30o, eyes and screen distance to maintain more than 60cm, so that the neck muscles can relax, and can make the surface of the eye exposed to the air area is significantly reduced. (2) Secondly, you should eat more fresh vegetables and fruits, and also increase the intake of vitamin A, B1, C and E. To prevent dry cornea, dry eyes, vision loss, and even night blindness, computer operators should eat more foods rich in vitamin A, such as soy products, fish, milk, walnuts, green vegetables, cabbage, hollow vegetables, tomatoes, and fresh fruits. Vitamin C can effectively inhibit cell oxidation. The main role of vitamin E is: to lower cholesterol and remove waste from the body. Walnuts and peanuts are rich in vitamin E. Vitamin B1 can nourish the nerves, green leafy vegetables contain a lot of vitamin B1. green tea can be properly drunk every day, because the lipopolysaccharide in tea, can improve the hematopoietic function of the body, tea also has the function of radiation damage prevention. (3) Again, the ambient lighting should be soft. In order to avoid reflections or unclear fluorescent screen, the computer should not be placed on the opposite side or back of the window, if the operator behind the window should be drawn curtains to avoid bright light directly onto the screen reflecting the bright image caused by eye fatigue. (4) Finally, you can use some eye drops as appropriate. Such as R&J, Bevosol, Xiao Laiwei and artificial tears. In addition, eye exercises can also play a role in relaxing the regulation of the eyes and reducing visual fatigue. The essence of eye exercises is self-massage, that is, through self-massage points around the eyes and skin muscles, to increase blood circulation in the eye sockets, to achieve the purpose of eliminating eye fatigue.
