HPV is contagious and is usually acquired through direct and indirect transmission. Direct transmission means direct contact with the patient’s warts; indirect transmission means contact with the patient’s used items and infection. The virus can enter the cells through tiny wounds on the skin mucous membrane and proliferate, gradually manifesting itself as warts on the skin. There are many subtypes of HPV, and infection with different subtypes of HPV can cause different diseases in the skin, such as common warts, plantar warts, flat warts, condyloma acuminata, and warty epidermal dysplasia.
