What’s wrong with high creatinine when you have gout?

Creatinine is a product of the body’s muscle metabolism, which is mainly filtered through the glomerulus and excreted in the urine. When the body has problems with kidney function, creatinine will accumulate in the body and cause creatinine values to rise. Medical science often uses blood creatinine tests to understand kidney function. Creatinine monitoring is divided into serum creatinine (SCr) and urine creatinine (UCr), and we usually talk about blood creatinine (SCr). Blood creatinine value is not a sensitive data, only when the kidney function is impaired to more than 50%, blood creatinine will start to rise rapidly, and when it reaches more than 700, it is basically judged as middle and late stage of uremia. Normal human serum creatinine Male 54-106μmoI/L (normal does not exceed 120μmoI/L) Female 44-97umol/L Pediatric 24.9-69.7umol/L Of course, high blood creatinine does not necessarily mean that the kidneys are damaged, but may also be due to water loss in the body, taking drugs that damage the kidneys, life strain and other various reasons. Gout patients should pay special attention to creatinine value because there is a common misconception among gout patients that “taking uric acid-lowering drugs will hurt the kidneys”, so many patients refuse to take the drugs and give up the standard treatment of gout. In fact, the kidney damage in patients with hyperuricemia and gout is not due to the effect of drugs, but to the disease itself. It was found that the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in gout patients was 15.1%, compared with 2.9% in normal people. The rate of kidney damage in gout patients is 86.3% compared to 7.4% in normal people. Remember, don’t avoid the disease and end up hurting yourself.
