Treatment of Gout Patients

Due to the lack of etiologic treatment for primary gout, it is not yet curable. Clinical treatment should achieve two objectives: 1. timely control of acute attacks of gouty arthritis. 2. Persistent treatment of hyperuricemia to prevent urate deposition, joint destruction and kidney damage. General treatment: Avoid eating purine-rich foods such as animal offal, sardines, oysters, clams and crabs; eat fish and shrimp, meat, peas, spinach and other foods containing moderate amounts of purines or less; fruits, vegetables, milk, eggs and other foods containing few purines need not be a concern. Alcohol, especially beer, is prohibited to prevent acute attacks. In order to promote uric acid excretion, it is advisable to drink more water, so that the daily urine volume is above 2000ml. Obese people should reduce their intake to lower their body weight, and should enter less fructose. Patients should not be overworked, nervous, suffer from wet and cold, wear comfortable shoes, do not make joint injury, etc. Medical supervision of asymptomatic patients with hyperuricemia and family, in addition to attention to diet also regular monitoring of blood uric acid and kidney function for timely treatment. Treatment of acute gouty arthritis: colchicine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, hormones, etc. Treatment of chronic phase is based on preventing acute attacks, lowering blood uric acid, reducing gout stone formation and preventing renal function damage.
