The purpose of albumin infusion in nephrotic syndrome

The main purpose of albumin infusion in patients with nephrotic syndrome is to correct hypoproteinemia and improve the plasma colloid osmotic pressure of patients, reduce edema and ensure effective blood perfusion to vital organs. Patients with nephrotic syndrome have severe symptoms of hypoproteinemia and massive proteinuria, with plasma albumin below 30g/L, and in severe cases, plasma albumin is only about 10-20g/L. At this time, the water in the patient’s blood vessels leaks out into the tissue interstitial space to form edema, and the lower the plasma albumin, the more severe the symptoms of edema. In order to reduce the patient’s edema, plasma albumin can be transfused to correct the hypoproteinemia and reduce the symptoms of edema. However, this is a way to treat the symptoms but not the root cause. The main approach is to actively treat the primary disease, improve the condition of nephrotic syndrome, and reduce the quantitative amount of urine protein, thus reducing the symptoms of plasma albumin reduction.
