Whether multiple cysts in the liver need to be treated depends mainly on the size of the cysts. If the cysts are all relatively small and the patient does not have any clinical symptoms, no treatment is needed because most of the cysts are congenital and grow very slowly, and many patients find them by chance during the course of physical examination; in such cases, none of them need to be treated, and the patient is only required to review the ultrasound every six months or so to observe the changes of the cysts. However, if the cyst diameter is more than 5 cm or the cyst is relatively large and the patient also has symptoms such as discomfort in the liver area, ultrasound-guided interventional treatment can be considered at this time depending on the location of the cyst. For some cysts with bleeding and infection, which cause patients to have symptoms, surgical treatment is needed.
