Steps of pleural effusion aspiration

The procedure of extracting pleural fluid is usually strictly regulated, and the patient should sign a consent form for thoracentesis and be informed of the relevant complications. After a small amount of pleural fluid is removed, the patient is replaced with a disposable thoracentesis needle, and different doses of pleural fluid are extracted according to the amount of pleural fluid, after which the patient is disinfected with iodine volts and fixed with sterile gauze and adhesive tape. If there is no special discomfort, the patient is advised to rest in bed and wait for the results of chest aspiration before deciding on further treatment measures. If complications of thoracentesis occur, symptomatic treatment should be actively given to avoid further complications.
