In developed countries in Europe and the United States, because most prostate cancers are detected early, prostate cancer treatment is quite effective. For every 1000 patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, on average, only 2 patients die of prostate cancer within 5 years of diagnosis. China has a lower survival rate than the United States due to a much lower rate of early diagnosis and a higher percentage of patients presenting with metastases. Few patients with stage I prostate cancer die from prostate cancer, stage II is better treated than stage III, and most die from stage IV prostate cancer.
