With the growing threat of chronic kidney disease, the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Funds have taken the initiative to designate the second Thursday of March each year as World Kidney Day. The aim is to raise global awareness of the high morbidity and mortality of chronic kidney disease and related diseases, and to recognize the importance of early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease is characterized by “three highs” and “three lows”: high incidence, high prevalence of associated cardiovascular disease, and high death rate; low awareness of chronic kidney disease, low prevention and treatment rate, and low awareness of associated cardiovascular disease in the whole society. According to statistics, about 6.5% to 10% of the general population in developed countries suffer from chronic kidney disease of varying degrees; the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in people over 40 years old in China is greater than 10%, but the awareness rate is less than 5%. This shows that the awareness and attention to the state of their own kidney disease, the importance of kidney disease, prevention, control and treatment is very important, the correct understanding and positive attitude to the ultimate consequences of the development of chronic kidney disease is very different. The harm of chronic kidney disease may not be experienced by those who do not understand chronic kidney disease, but it is definitely not difficult to appreciate the grief and despair that flow from the eyes of patients with chronic kidney disease and their relatives as interpreted in movies and dramas. Although there are treatments such as kidney transplantation and dialysis, the high cost of treatment is by no means affordable for ordinary families, and the key to preventing end-stage renal disease such as renal failure is to understand the risk factors that lead to its occurrence, early detection of the problem, and an active and correct mindset of treatment, control and prevention, which is also very beneficial in preventing the further development of chronic kidney disease.
