Pneumothorax with large alveoli can heal on its own. If the amount of pneumothorax is less than 30%, it can be treated by conservative methods, giving oxygen and paying attention to rest, and usually it can be completely absorbed in about two weeks. However, if there is a ruptured alveolar pneumothorax, the treatment only by conservative methods is prone to recurrence of a second pneumothorax, and the chance is 50%. Once the second pneumothorax occurs, it should be treated by thoracoscopic alveolar resection with pleural fixation, so that the pneumothorax will not recur. If the second pneumothorax has not been operated, there is an 80% chance that it will recur as a pneumothorax again, so generally when the second pneumothorax occurs, thoracoscopic surgery should be performed.
