Some patients with intermittent claudication can recover with bed rest, depending mainly on the cause of the intermittent claudication. If it is caused by lumbar spine disease, it may gradually recover with conservative treatment of strict bed rest. Patients may take oral NSAIDs etc. to relieve painful discomfort. If, on the other hand, it is caused by vascular disease, bed rest will not improve on its own and prolonged bed rest may also aggravate the condition. In this case, appropriate exercise and active treatment are required.
