General knowledge of egg retrieval surgery

You will be scheduled for egg retrieval 36 hours after the night shot. Arrive at the hospital by 7:30 am on the day of the egg retrieval procedure, together with your spouse, and bring your original ID and marriage certificate. It is a good idea to have a small breakfast before the egg retrieval procedure. You can choose easily digestible food such as rice porridge or bread. Be careful not to overeat. First, both spouses sign the informed consent form for sperm retrieval; second, the woman does the preoperative preparation, disinfection and cleaning, and uses analgesic medication. Enter the operating room in order according to the nurse’s arrangement for the egg retrieval procedure; meanwhile your spouse is arranged to stay in another room for semen retrieval. Many of our patients are afraid of the procedure and are terrified when they hear about it. In fact, egg retrieval is not a scary procedure, it is just like having an ultrasound done in the usual way. When the surgeon determines the location of the egg retrieval, a thin needle is introduced into the body through the frame. The needle is passed through the vaginal mucosa and into the ovary, just like a normal injection, and usually all the follicles on one side of the ovary can be aspirated in one puncture. Only 2 punctures are needed and the procedure is over. The procedure usually takes 5-10 minutes, with lower abdominal soreness and lumbosacral discomfort, and is easily tolerated by most patients. Here is a tip, relax your whole body muscles during the egg retrieval, especially the perineal muscles. You can take deep breaths or chat with the nurse to divert your attention. When the ultrasound probe moves easily, egg retrieval goes smoothly and the procedure takes less time and is less painful. After egg retrieval surgery: 1. Review the ultrasound after 2 hours, mainly to check for vaginal bleeding and intra-abdominal bleeding. 2. Take oral antibiotics to prevent infection. 3.Progesterone injection 60mg intramuscular injection once a day. 4.Come to hospital after 3 days to prepare for embryo transfer. 5.Watch for vaginal bleeding and blood in urine; if there is any abnormality, follow up promptly. 6. Avoid strenuous exercise for 1 week after surgery and pay attention to vulva hygiene. We are all very concerned about how many eggs we get after the egg retrieval surgery. Generally, the follicular fluid removed during egg retrieval is given to the embryologist to observe the eggs under the microscope, and the exact number of eggs retrieved can be known 5 minutes after the egg retrieval procedure. The retrieved eggs are carefully placed in an incubator with a temperature and environment similar to that of the body and await in vitro fertilization with sperm.
