What are the symptoms of gout caused by eating seafood?

Seafood is a food that contains too much purine, which can lead to an increase in uric acid in the body and may cause a gout attack. Gout attacks may involve redness, swelling, pain, restricted movement and increased local skin temperature. It occurs in the more terminal parts of the limbs, such as the first metatarsophalangeal joint of the foot, the ankle joint, and, in a small number of cases, in the upper limbs, such as the wrist and finger joints. Gout is a single-joint attack with pain of a tearing or knife-like nature that is unbearable. Many patients have attacks at night because blood circulation is slower at night and uric acid crystals are more likely to precipitate, causing gout attacks. The diagnosis can be clarified based on the typical symptoms of gout, together with blood uric acid tests, and if necessary, joint and musculoskeletal ultrasound and MRI can be examined to further clarify the diagnosis.
