Lymph node diseases are categorized as “phlegm nuclei” and “scrofula” in Chinese medicine. Commonly used herbs for treatment include dandelion, forsythia, Xiaku Cao and other herbs that clear away heat and toxins, disperse knots and eliminate swelling.
1. Dandelion: bitter, sweet, cold in nature. It enters the liver and stomach meridians. It has the effect of clearing away heat and detoxification, dispersing lumps and swelling, and promoting diuresis. It is mainly used for boils and fever, scrofula (enlarged lymph nodes), breast carbuncle (red, swollen and painful breasts, poor milk discharge, and ultimately the formation of suppurative diseases), damp-heat jaundice and other conditions.
2. Forsythia: bitter flavor, cold nature. It belongs to heart, lung and gallbladder meridians. It has the effect of clearing heat and removing toxins, dispersing lumps and swelling, and dispersing wind and heat. It is mainly used for carbuncle sores, scrofula, wind-heat and cold.
3. Xia Gu Cao: bitter, pungent, cold in nature. It enters the liver and gallbladder meridians. It has the effect of clearing the fire of liver and gallbladder, subduing swelling and dispersing knots. Mainly used in the treatment of eye redness and swelling, scrofula, gall tumors (equivalent to thyroid tumors), breast addiction (breast pain lumps, and menstrual cycle and emotional changes are closely related to the equivalent of breast hyperplasia) and other diseases.
They are all bitter and cold, and should be used with caution or in combination with other medicines for people with cold spleen and stomach.
