What is restless leg syndrome?

  When you go to bed at night, as soon as you lie down your legs start to feel uncomfortable, such as insect crawling, soreness and swelling, etc.. Only by getting out of bed and walking around, or pounding the lower extremities, can it be alleviated. Once you lie down again, the above symptoms will reappear or worsen, and will seriously affect your sleep. The symptoms are not obvious during the day. At this point, it is important to consider whether you are suffering from “restless legs syndrome”.  The medical term for this disease is “restless legs syndrome”, also known as “restless legs syndrome”, is a manifestation of unbearable sensory abnormalities in the lower extremities, the symptoms of the disease can be temporarily relieved through activities, often at rest, the disease is common in the middle-aged and elderly groups. About 10% of the population has symptoms of varying degrees, and 3-5% of the population has severe symptoms that interfere with sleep and life.  There are two reasons why “restless leg syndrome” is rarely known: first, many patients do not realize that it is a disease, thinking that it is just fatigue and do not seek medical attention; second, patients go to the hospital, but do not know which department to see, often because they do not find the right department, some non-specialist doctors do not know enough, thinking that it is a lack of calcium, lack of blood or mental factors, and so on. etc., some also think it is a bone, joint or muscle disease, and do not give proper treatment, so that the patient loses confidence in treatment. Although this disease itself is not a serious danger to the patient’s life, it greatly affects the quality of life of the patient. The incidence of restless legs will be increased if accompanied by iron deficiency anemia, pregnant women, hypothyroidism, diabetes, low magnesium, low folate and uremia.  Therefore, it is recommended that people with the above symptoms should be alerted to “restless legs syndrome” and seek medical attention in a timely manner.
