How to treat thyroid lumps

In the management of thyroid masses, the first step is to determine the benignity or malignancy of the mass. The nature of the mass can be determined by ultrasound of the thyroid gland and fine needle aspiration of the thyroid mass. If the mass is malignant, surgery to remove the mass in general surgery is recommended. If the mass is benign but is large enough to compress the trachea or esophagus, minimally invasive ablation therapy or surgery may be considered. If the mass is 1-4 cm in size, radiofrequency ablation therapy may be an option. For lesions of the thyroid gland, if secondary hyperthyroidism or the possibility of malignancy is not excluded, surgical treatment should be promptly selected and lesion excision biopsy under local anesthesia can be performed, because there are also some patients who may have malignant tumors or simple inflammation as a result.
