Meaning of thyroid nodule with multiple calcifications

Thyroid nodules with multiple calcifications are defined as abnormal growths in the thyroid gland with multiple calcifications within the swelling. This condition is commonly associated with malignant tumors of the thyroid gland and suggests a high likelihood of thyroid cancer when the ultrasound signs appear to cross. It also includes solid hypoechoic nodules or nodules with abundant blood supply and blood flow signals, nodules with irregular morphological margins, poorly defined borders or tiny internal calcifications with pinpoint-like diffuse distribution of calcifications, and also with enlargement of supra- and subclavian lymph nodes around the neck. The calcification alone does not completely indicate a malignant thyroid tumor, so further investigation of the neck by MRI or cytocentesis may be indicated.
