Reasons for acne on the back of the neck

What we often call “acne” or “pimples”, scientifically known as “acne”, is a chronic inflammatory disease of the sebaceous glands of hair follicles. During puberty, the hormonal changes in the body and the relative increase in androgens can increase the size of the sebaceous glands and sebum secretion, which leads to keratosis and blockage of the sebaceous gland openings.

Under normal circumstances, there are parasitic bacteria on the human skin that live in symbiosis with the skin without causing disease. The skin located at the back of the neck, where the sebaceous glands are relatively developed, produces more oil, creating a good environment for bacteria to multiply. Excessive bacteria break down the oil secreted by the sebaceous glands to produce fatty acids, which can stimulate the hair follicles to cause inflammatory lesions. In addition, when we wash our faces or take a shower, we tend to ignore the area behind the neck, resulting in the accumulation of grease and dirt behind the neck, causing the blockage of pores, which can also easily lead to acne.

This shows that the generation of acne is the result of the combined effect of the human body environment and the external environment, in order to avoid the stimulation of adverse factors, we need to develop an active and healthy lifestyle: (1) a light diet, eat more fruits and vegetables, less spicy and stimulating food.

(2) Staying up late can reduce the body’s resistance and make it vulnerable to pathogens, so it is important to work and rest regularly and avoid staying up late.

(3) Usually use some oil control and refreshing bathing products in moderation to keep the local cleanliness.

(4) Excessive ultraviolet radiation can damage the skin barrier, making the skin fragile and susceptible, so it is necessary to properly protect the sun and avoid exposure to the sun.

(5) For those with more acne and serious symptoms, it is recommended to visit a dermatologist and reasonably choose topical and/or oral medications under the guidance of a professional doctor.
