Si Reverse San is used for treating Yang depression and syncope (cold extremities due to poor circulation of Yang Qi) and Liver and Spleen Qi depression, with the addition of Fructus Schisandraeae and Ginger if accompanied by coughing. The formula should be increased or decreased according to the patient’s condition. Si Reverse San has the effect of dispersing the liver and regulating the spleen by penetrating the evil spirits and relieving depression. It is mainly used in treating Yang depression and syncope. Symptoms include lack of warmth in the hands and feet, or abdominal pain, or discharge and heaviness in the lower part of the body, with a stringy pulse; evidence of depression of liver, spleen and qi, with distension and tightness in the ribs and abdomen, and pain in the epigastrium (abdomen), with a stringy pulse. If cough, add schizandra, dry ginger; urine is unfavorable (urine is not smooth), add poria to facilitate urination; abdominal pain, add cannon aconite; discharge under the weight of the person, add scallion to pass the yang and disperse the knot (warm yang qi, dissipate the stagnation); qi depression is very good, add fragrant adenophorbia, tulip gold in order to regulate the qi to resolve the stagnation; there is heat, add gardenia in order to clear the internal heat.
