A left temporal pole arachnoid cyst is located at the end of the left temporal lobe, near the frontal lobe and the eye. The subarachnoid space at this location is filled with cerebrospinal fluid, and if the arachnoid encapsulates the cerebrospinal fluid it forms a cyst with some occupational effect. Most patients have no clinical symptoms and, if found on examination, the cyst can also have a compressive effect on the brain tissue of the temporal lobe if it is large. There is a possibility of clinical symptoms, such as seizures, where the patient can present with psychomotor seizures, partial seizures, and generalized tonic clonic seizures. EEG can help confirm whether the site of origin of the brain wave abnormality is the left temporal lobe. Compression of the temporal brain tissue may also cause psychiatric symptoms and physical activity disorders. If symptoms occur, it is recommended that the patient be seen by a neurosurgeon to consider whether surgery should be performed.
