Be alert to drug-related kidney damage

Drug-related kidney damage is an important phenomenon in the changing spectrum of kidney diseases in recent years. With the widespread clinical use of anti-microbial drugs, tumor treatment drugs, contrast agents and other drugs in recent years, the accompanying drug-induced kidney damage has become increasingly prominent. Due to the different clinical manifestations of drug-induced kidney damage and the strong compensatory capacity of the kidney itself, it is often difficult to be detected at the early stage of the disease and delayed diagnosis and treatment, resulting in irreversible kidney failure and even death. Commonly used antibiotics such as cephalosporins, quinolones, aminoglycosides, diuretics, dehydrating agents, painkillers are prone to kidney damage, and the traditional concept that herbal medicines are non-toxic and harmless should be completely changed. A large number of studies have shown that more than 200 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines have nephrotoxicity, such as those containing aristolochic acid, which has been reported repeatedly in recent years and can cause irreversible kidney damage, should be highly alert. The human understanding of the disease is still very superficial, most of the disease is still no special treatment, the so-called “ancestral secret recipes”, most of them are individual cases, and can not cure all diseases. Therefore, in terms of treatment, we should adhere to a stable and supportive therapy, never overly “aggressive” drug intervention, so as not to aggravate the kidney damage.
