The treatment of encapsulated pleural effusion mainly depends on the amount and nature of the effusion. If the amount of fluid is small and the effusion is considered to be leaky and there is no symptom of chest infection, no special treatment can be done and it can be slowly absorbed; if the amount of fluid is large, puncture or tube drainage can be considered. For infected pleural effusion, it should be cleaned up and drained as much as possible, repeated puncture or tube drainage, application of sensitive antibiotics, and active elimination of the causative agent. Thoracotomy or thoracoscopic clearance of the chest cavity can also be considered if necessary, and the patient should be given nutritional support.
