What is selective amnesia

Everyone’s life will happen a lot of things that are not as good, some quickly fade away, but some are always lingering, no matter how hard you can not forget. Every moment of every day is repeatedly torturing their fragile nerves, constantly wandering in the edge of collapse. Shame, anger, aggression and other complex emotions of being cheated are entangled together. Forgetting is the best way to protect yourself. Selective amnesia, in psychological terms, is a defense mechanism. In layman’s terms, if a person encounters a powerful stimulus that is unacceptable to the person, then subconsciously he will choose to forget about it, forming “selective amnesia”. However, although the surface seems to be forgetting this thing, but its shadow still exists. When you do something, you will unconsciously be affected by that thing, and you may not be able to figure it out yourself, and it will slowly become a knot in your mind. Selective amnesia will gradually recover over time, but if something has a strong psychological impact on you, you may selectively keep forgetting it. But most of them are likely to be cured. Some people, due to a major setback, would love to have selective amnesia, and under strong mental pressure, would feel that certain things did not happen anymore, or even make up another situation in their minds and hypothetically deceive themselves, which are actually possible and are essentially out of self-protection. But whether this is medical selective amnesia is not necessarily the case. It is possible that it is self-deception, which makes it even less likely that you will forget. Many people have had experiences that they do not want to remember, such as major setbacks or relationship changes, and wish to forget them through “selective amnesia”. From a psychological point of view, this task is impossible to accomplish. First, although selective amnesia is selective, it is actually “passive”. By “selective” we mean that we can forget one thing without affecting our memory of other things, not that we can actively choose what to forget, so it is not up to you or me to decide which thing to forget.
